The Solar Plexus Chakra

Solar Plexus Chakra:

  • Sanskrit Name: Manipura
  • Color: Yellow
  • Element: Fire
  • Sense: Sight
  • Location: A few centimeters above the navel

The solar plexus chakra is our power center. The word “sun ray” suggests a radiant star, and that is the perfect way to imagine this chakra – as a miniature sun radiating light from the core of our being. The Sanskrit word Manipura loosely translates to “city of jewels or shining gem”. When this chakra is fully activated and aligned, we are blessed with precious gifts of willpower, personal strength, and the ability to transform thoughts and ideas into concrete manifestations.

This chakra is vibrant, sunlight-yellow in color and is depicted as a lotus flower with ten petals. On each petal is inscribed a syllable that represents each of the 10 energy vortices of spiritual ignorance. It is said that we must first overcome these obstacles of the mind to achieve a strong and nourished solar plexus chakra. In the center of the lotus is an inverted triangle that signifies the key element of this chakra, fire.

This chakra is about our personal identity. When it is healthy and balanced, we feel in control of our lives, powerful, and confident in our ability to create anything we set our mind (and heart) to. It gives us that inner fire that fuels our creative projects and propels us through life. It acts as a door that opens us to our true inner potential. Blockages in the third chakra are often experienced through digestive issues like ulcers, heartburn, eating disorders, and indigestion. It is the chakra of our personal power, meaning it is connected to our sense of self-esteem and confidence.
